There are a lot of us out there

In checking out my stats I noticed that one post has more than three times as many hits as any other - Is it possible to come out of the closet late in life

There must be a ton of us out there for that to happen - or those of us who come out late in life are really dumb and keep coming back to the same post over and over. :-)

Maybe this generation will be different, although I don't think it will be as different as we may want it to be.  The resistance to being LGBT seems to be growing more militant among many Christians.  There is not a lot of room for coming out in that sort of environment.  Then there is the fear and ignorance that is carried on by such hateful speech and attitudes even when done "lovingly".

But it  is good to know that I am not alone.  When I first began this struggle I thought I must be the only gay man who was married to a woman or at least we were few and far between.  Fortunately that is not so.

  1. I do think there are many guys out there, and I hope that the generation growing up has a chance to be who they are, and being honest.

  2. My blog's most visited post was on a similar theme; it was titled 'Options for a Married Closeted Guy with Kids' or something. Before reading blogs and blogging myself, I thought I was the only guy in the world like me. Now I realize that there are more of us out there than most people can possibly imagine.

When you mention the 'resistance to LGBT' is growing; that is in the States, sadly. My experience in Canada is that LGBT acceptance is widespread. For example, in my workplace tomorrow, every person working in the organization is attending an anti-homophobia workshop. And our company is already highly, highly accepting of LGBT folk.

  3. As a religious guy, there is still very little church support for being gay. When I was still a pastor and living in church provided housing - it was really threatening. So I have not been as brave and as encouraging to others as my morality would urge
